Yes fall is here again and it’s time to get ready for winter.
We are now in the swing of summer work now, fences to repair and some new ones to make. Baby calves from the Dexter’s, we had three new ones so far still hoping for a late one but not sure.
Hope to beginning putting up more posts to share how things are going on our Northern Alberta homestead. We had to be away for awhile off and on, but we are home now for a good long bit now. Fun when your body is away your mind still remains.
Hope spring is here.
Hello everyone - we are back blogging! I see it has been a long time since the last post, allot has happened since then. It will take a few posts to get things up to date, right now we are just finishing a big job of taking 2 miles of fence down. It will give us enough fence to finish fencing the homestead, we will post about a very simple and cheap way to roll up fence wire.
It is cold out, most morning it is 30 degrees below freezing and that is Celsius, I have been trying to work in this weather but it is slow. I did get some more scaffling up and a few sheets of wall broad up I will soon have the gable wall on the west end finished. Today it is a bit warmer so I will head out into the forest and cut and haul in fire wood, plan to make a post on fire wood making.
I’m not sure if this is new or not but the other day Kaelynn and I where making some jello I think it was lime. We where wondering if one could make chocolate jello. So the other morning I tried it i took a box of orange jello and mixed it up and added some chocolate syrup to is and it turned out great. It kind of tastes like a chocolate orange, very good with cream.
We had a little break from the Internet for a week or so as to the fact the computer blow out another logic board, I like a Mac computer for the big reason no bugs or very few I have never gotten any. But they can cost allot to fix,(thank God for extended warranty) if it break again the wife is going for a laptop I hope it’s a Mac. Hope to put up a few new posts now that we are back online.
We started to build the West porch and we just about have it all framed and sheeted in, just the tin to go up now and finish the west gable wall. Then we will be starting on the North wall of the second story this will be a very interesting project as it will be an over hang. This is to give more room for the upstairs as we have now added a large school room that will also have the computer and library in it as my wife’s books are taking over the house.
Building Kitchen Cabinets is another how to book put out by Taunton Press, I picked up this copy to help me build my own set of kitchen cabinets and I have to say it is one of the better how to books on the subject for the do it yourself-er wood worker. Udo walks you from start to finish, not only on how to build the cabinets but starts you off with a trip thought the workshop to see if you have everything you will need to get the job done. I think this is where the book really shines, He shows you that all you need is a simple setup with what just about any good do-it-yourself shop would already have. One of the other things that I found to very valuable in this book is on just about every page you will find a few Pro Tips. I have found these to be great not only for helping with building cabinets but you can use them in many other areas of your wood working. From the beginning to the end this book is packed full of detail and know how.
Udo covers the whole project in 14 chapters with hundreds of photos and line drawings to help you feel like you are looking right over his shoulder. He will walk you thought from the basic layout and design covering every detail; right down to hanging them puppies on the wall and putting down the counter top. If you are a serious do-it-yourselfer and you can’t build a simple set of kitchen cabinet with this book you had best to head for the yellow pages. As a fellow wood worker and do-it-myselfer I know you will want this book on your bookshelf, if you are planning to build cabinets.
